 “Bringing Physiotherapy to You”

SPECIALIST ASSESSMENT – Due to the complex nature of Neurological conditions, an initial assessment of an hour is required, to assess a patient’s presentation and to determine the impact on mobility and function. Further assessment may also be required if there are multiple issues. Assessment will be of both motor/movement issues and sensory problems, including vision, vestibular difficulties.

SPECIALIST PROBLEM LIST – After the assessment a problem list is identified, both from the patient’s perspective and the therapist. A written copy is provided for the patient.

SPECIALIST GOAL SETTING – Priorities are established, and both long and short-term goals are agreed by both the patient and therapist. These goals are both functional and practical, and patient centred. A copy of the goals is provided for reference.

SPECIALIST TREATMENT PLAN – From the goals, a bespoke treatment plan is devised and agreed by both the client and therapist. This includes both hands-on therapy as required, and other adjuncts including specific home exercise programmes, specialist information and advice, referrals or signposting to appropriate services, management/positioning advice, outdoor mobility and accessing the community, walking aid assessment etc. The patient is provided with their own copy, and again will be patient specific.

SPECIALIST SKILLS/TREATMENTS –

  • Bobath techniques – based on normal movement approach.
  • Motor control techniques.
  • Sensory lycra application.
  • Functional electrical stimulation.
  • Saebo treatment.
  • Integrated balance approach.
  • Home exercise provision.

REVIEW PROCESS – ongoing throughout treatment. Reports/letter writing service can be provided as required for GP’S, consultants etc.

MAINTENANCE/LONG TERM MANAGEMENT – Due to the long-term nature of many neurological conditions, ongoing maintenance and management services and programmes can be provided as required. This includes positioning advice/sheets/programmes, teaching family members/carers to continue with specific aspects of a programme, ongoing reviews as required.
